“What a breathtaking couple.”
Those were the first words that came to mind when I saw Giorgia and Giacomo for the very first time.
The unusual part is that we did not meet during the usual introductory call or pre-wedding consultation. I first saw them during the wedding preparations of Riccardo, a dear friend of theirs, whose wedding I was photographing in Verona.
Their own wedding had already been arranged through the wedding planners at Emotions Eventi, so we would soon meet properly. But life has its own elegant way of anticipating things.
And from that moment, I could not wait to photograph their wedding at Villa Mattarana.
A refined celebration in Verona, filled with beauty, emotion, family, and that kind of natural elegance that never needs to be forced.
If you are in a hurry, the slideshow below will give you a quick glimpse of the day.
If you have a little more time, I invite you to enjoy the full story, image by image.
Bride and Groom Preparations in Verona
Bride’s dress: Atelier Emé
Shoes: Calzature Sembeni
Jewellery: Agor & Amighini
Giorgia got ready in her family home, an elegant private residence that became the perfect setting for the beginning of the day.
Wrapped in a delicate white robe, surrounded by her sisters and her mother, she moved through the morning with grace and quiet emotion. Every detail felt intentional: the soft light, the refined atmosphere, the anticipation building slowly in the rooms.
Her bridal look was completed with a pearl headpiece by Duilio, enhancing her features with a timeless, delicate touch, and flawless make-up by Veronica.
There was no rush.
Only gestures, glances, and the beautiful intimacy of a family preparing for one of the most important days of their lives.
Giacomo prepared at his parents’ home, in the heart of Verona, just a few steps from Piazza Bra.
He was accompanied by his brothers, in a completely different yet equally meaningful atmosphere: more masculine, more playful, but still filled with emotion.
These parallel preparations are often among the most important moments of a wedding day. They reveal the people around the couple, the relationships, the anticipation, the small movements before everything becomes official.
The Ceremony at the Basilica of San Lorenzo
The ceremony took place at the Basilica of San Lorenzo, one of the most beautiful and historic churches in Verona.
The most emotional moment was undoubtedly the bride’s entrance.
There is always a precise instant when everything becomes real: the door, the silence, the breath before the walk begins.
I still remember Giorgia taking deep breaths just before entering the church, holding the arm of her father and looking at him with a smile full of emotion.
Then came the walk towards Giacomo.
As soon as he saw her, he could not hold back his tears.
It was one of those moments that does not need to be directed or explained. It simply happens, and the photographer’s role is to be ready — discreetly present, close enough to preserve it, far enough not to disturb it.
A ceremony made of emotion, elegance and tenderness, in one of the most atmospheric churches in Verona.
Wedding Reception at Villa Mattarana
Villa Mattarana is located just east of Verona’s historic centre, a little outside the old city walls.
Dating back to the 15th century, the villa offers a beautiful Italian garden at the front and a generous green park at the back, creating an elegant and versatile setting for a wedding reception in Verona.
The wedding lunch took place in the front garden, surrounded by the quiet charm of the villa and the refined atmosphere created by the planning and floral team.
Every corner of the venue had been carefully styled by wedding planner Francesca and the floral designers of Garden Floridea.
Nothing felt excessive.
Everything had a sense of balance.
The flowers, the table setting, the architecture and the natural light worked together to create a reception that felt elegant without becoming formal, refined without losing warmth.
Villa Mattarana is the kind of venue that allows a wedding to breathe. Its spaces create rhythm throughout the day: arrival, reception, portraits, dinner, cake cutting and party all unfold naturally, without feeling compressed into one single area.
Couple Portraits in the Gardens of Villa Mattarana
For the couple portraits, we moved through the gardens of Villa Mattarana.
The atmosphere was soft, romantic and beautifully timeless.
Giorgia and Giacomo did not need much direction. Their presence together was already strong, elegant and completely natural.
My approach during portraits is never to interrupt the emotional rhythm of the day. I prefer to guide gently, creating space for the couple to feel comfortable, while shaping images with intention, light and composition.
The gardens of Villa Mattarana offered the perfect backdrop: greenery, architectural lines, quiet corners and a sense of privacy just a few steps away from the reception.
These portraits became a moment of pause.
A breath between the ceremony and the celebration.
A short time dedicated only to them, before returning to their guests and to the energy of the party.
Cake Cutting and Wedding Party
As evening arrived, the atmosphere shifted.
The cake cutting opened the final part of the celebration, bringing everyone together once again.
The light, the villa, the guests gathered around the couple — everything created that perfect transition between elegance and celebration.
After the cake, the party began.
The formal part of the day gave way to movement, music, embraces and laughter. These are often the images that complete the story of a wedding: less composed, more instinctive, full of energy and personality.
A wedding is not only made of beautiful details and carefully planned moments.
It is also made of everything that happens when people finally let go.
And Giorgia and Giacomo’s wedding at Villa Mattarana had both: refinement and emotion, elegance and joy, beauty and real life.
Planning a Wedding at Villa Mattarana?
If you are planning your wedding at Villa Mattarana, in Verona or in one of the historic villas of Northern Italy, photography should not only document the day.
It should preserve its atmosphere.
The architecture, the light, the people, the rhythm of the celebration, the small emotional transitions that make the story feel complete.
My work is designed for couples who want natural, refined and intentional wedding photography — images that feel elegant, but still deeply connected to what truly happened.
